OUTLOOK Festival, Pula, Croatia
1st- 4th September 2011
We’re excited to announce our involvement in this year’s Outlook Festival.
Now in it’s 4th year, Outlook has quickly established itself as the leading bass music festival, attracting visitors from all over the world. The festival takes place at Fort Punta Christo, an abandoned fort on the South West coastline of Croatia. This year’s line up reads like a who’s who of the dubstep scene, with pretty much every DJ and MC you’d care to mention. On the live stage, big name headliners include Pharoahe Monch, Barrington Levy and Horace Andy.
We’re taking over a ramshackle old building on the festival site, which we will transform into a LAVA pop up show. Delphine Ettinger, Art Director of LAVA Collective, and Ziggy Grudzinskas have masterminded an ambitious concept, comprising mixed media artwork, video projections, optical illusions and sound installations. Titled ‘House of Dub’, the show will expore themes relating to the history of dub music.
We don’t want to give too much away, but we can reveal that Benny ill has agreed to produce a soundscape for the show. As one half of Horsepower Productions, Benny is widely credited as a pioneer of the dubstep sound and we’re honoured to be collaborating with him on this project. On the visual side, we’ve invited Mr Penfold, Ashes57, Emma Dexter, Ziggy Grudzinskas and Chris Mackenzie-Gray (Calm & Collected) to transform the building into an eye popping riot of colour and creativity.
The festival sold out months ago, but if you’re lucky enough to have a ticket, we look forward to seeing you there!

Benny Ill
As a founding member of Horsepower Productions, Benny is widely credited as a pioneer of the dubstep sound. Through his involvement with the legendary Dub War parties, he later helped introduce dubstep to the New York club scene. Benny has released forward-thinking bass music under various aliases over the years, collaborating with artists like Kode9, Hatcha and Goldspot. He also produces more conventional dub music as one half of the duo Bill and Ben.
Mr Penfold
Although he lives in Cambridge, Mr Penfold’s vibrant and colourful artwork has become an increasingly familiar sight on the streets of London. Whether working solo or collaborating with the brilliant Malarky, his murals are awesome and we’re excited to be working with him at Outlook.
Stik's bold, minimalist creations pop up all over London, brightening up the city's darkest corners. These seemingly simple figures are capable of conveying powerful emotions, sometimes appearing melancholic or despairing, other times joyous and playful.
Ashes57 is a graphic artist, illustrator and photographer. Her artwork has graced many record sleeves, flyers and posters, and as Art Director for Swamp 81 she works closely with Loefah to create the label’s visual identity. When she paints, her magical cityscapes buzz to the sound of bass-heavy music.
Emma Dexteris a sculptor and installation artist who currently specialises in optical illusions. Following an artist residency in the rainforest of Las Pozas, she began to experiment with mirrors as a means to manipulate spatial awareness within enclosed spaces. Her extraordinary installations focus on a central object, which is reflected multiple times to create globe-like visuals within a hall of mirrors.
Chris Mackenzie Gray is a graphic designer and installation artist. Chris's artwork caught our eye at a recent group show at Tank Gallery, where he featured alongside Ashes57 and Ziggy. He produced a stunning optical illusion using strings and UV lights, and we were so impressed by it that we invited him to create something similar at Outlook.
Ziggy Grudzinskasis a painter, photographer and installation artist. His installations utilise layered graphical techniques to create striking illusory experiences. For Outlook, Ziggy has created a piece that combines sound, light and 3D elements. He has also worked closely with LAVA to co-curate the entire 'House of Dub' project.
