From Warhol and Basquiat to Run DMC and KRS ONE, Ricky Powell’s photgraphy depicts global icons in intimate surroundings. Going through Powell’s back catalogue with him is an incredible experience; Jam Master Jay is all smiles at the airport, a young LL Cool J hangs out in a nightclub with his entourage, Eric B and Rakim work the crowd at a party.

For our show, Powell has submitted 11 of his classic shots, all signed and titled by the man himself. We still can’t quite believe our luck, it is amazing to have such a prestigious photographer involved with LAVA Collective and it really will take our show to the next level. Props to the Rickster – a true New York legend.
